Kim Meier “Kick On” Memorial Grant

In honor of the late Kim Meier, a top level eventing athlete who made it to the highest levels of the sport through her own grit and determination. This grant is intended to assist those riders who are struggling financially to compete their own horse(s) at the Intermediate level and above who have passed beyond the funding available for juniors and young adults. Preference will also be given to riders that are competing on horses that they bred. This fund was established and funded through the generosity of Kim’s friends.

Grant applicants must:

  • be 26 years of age or older,

  • be current members of the USEA Inc.,

  • wholly own their own horse(s) without partnerships or syndicates, and

  • be currently at the Intermediate Level, FEI equivalent level, or above.

Each year one applicant will be selected to receive a $5,000 grant.

A grant review committee will review all applications annually and using the following matrix will initially identify potential grant recipients:

  • Is the candidate competing at the Intermediate level or higher? (Yes/No)

  • Is the candidate competing on a homebred horse? (Yes/No)

  • Quality of recent results. (x 1)

  • Longevity in the sport showing results of brining multiple horses to the Intermediate level or above. (x 1.5)

  • Demonstration of knowledge of Kim Meier’s story and the goals of this grant. (x 2)

  • Candiate’s allignment with Kim Meier’s motivations and the intent of this grant including but not limited to: love of the horse and the sport, being “self-made”, a lack of external financial support. (x 3)

A grant application is available at this link, and all applications are due by October 15th. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
