Tremaine Cooper Fund for Cross-Country Design

In 2021, the USEA Foundation and the United States Eventing Association (USEA) lost a treasured friend and leader, James Tremaine Cooper.

A true champion of eventing, Tremaine was an accomplished athlete, course designer, builder, father, husband, son, and friend. His quiet, thoughtful approach and dedication to the sport contributed to significant advancements in eventing, particularly in cross-country course design and safety.

One of Tremaine's greatest passions was advancing the education and professional development of American cross-country course designers. To honor his legacy and continue this important work, Tremaine's family established the Tremaine Cooper Fund for Cross-Country Design through the USEA Foundation.

About the Grant

The Tremaine Cooper Fund for Cross-Country Design provides annual financial assistance to qualified U.S. cross-country course designers attending FEI Eventing Continuing Education Seminars or Clinics held outside North America.

The USEA Foundation Trustees have authorized individual grants of $3,000 to eligible FEI Level 2 and Level 3 cross-country course designers who satisfy the requirements outlined below.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a grant, applicants must:

• Be a U.S. citizen at the time the grant is awarded.

• Hold a current FEI Level 2 or Level 3 Eventing Course Designer qualification.

• Be a current member in good standing of both the USEA and USEF at the time the grant is awarded.

• Attend an eligible FEI Eventing Continuing Education Seminar or Clinic held outside North America.

Grant Documentation and Payment

Following attendance at an eligible seminar or clinic, applicants must submit the following documentation to the USEA:

• Evidence confirming attendance at the qualifying FEI educational program.

• A completed IRS Form W-9, available here.
